Winters Express: Project collaboration brings fresh look for local businesses

September 30, 2021

WINTERS, Calif. — Upon entering town from Highway 128, visitors were greeted by a few local businesses, two of which had not undergone a refresher of their signage for over 20 years. Thanks to a project sponsorship, the pole signs for Kountry Kitchen and Winters Market have undergone a transformation.

Sue Moualim, the Winters District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, said the inspiration for the project came about when the Chamber was researching the costs and ideas for updating wayfinding signs in the downtown area and Grant Avenue corridor in Winters.

“One of the areas of improvement was the intersection at Grant and Railroad. It is the main intersection that leads to Winters Historic Downtown and an intersection that most, if not all residents and visitors pass through to get home or when heading out to Berryessa Lake,” Moualim said.

Moualim said the Chamber also wanted to explore areas that could be refurbished to enhance the community and to assist businesses post pandemic.

Chamber members Perfect Union and Cimico Signs stepped in to help sponsor the repair and restoration of the pole signs for both Kountry Kitchen and Winters Market.

Caity Maple, Vice President of Government Affairs for Perfect Union, said the company ethos centers around giving back to the communities they serve and believe supporting those around us leads to shared prosperity for all.

“Sue mentioned that two of the pole signs on the main road were in need of serious repair, so we offered to help,” Maple said.  “We were able to underwrite the cost of both signs for approximately $8,000.”

Moualim said Chamber business members contribute to the quality of life residents enjoy in Winters and these types of projects enhance the pride in our community. She said repairing the pole signs will help to promote the entire business community.

“The restoration will potentially bring additional business to the sponsored businesses. In addition, the pole sign restoration together with the new mural by the Participation Gallery will create a welcoming and positive first impression for visitors to Winters Historic Downtown. There is also a renewed sense of pride when these projects take place in our community,” said Moualim.
